Masonry Restoration Cleaning & Stripping Systems

Applicator Guide

Here's how to get optimum performance from the best masonry restoration cleaners and strippers in the industry.

Latex-Based Cleaner

An airless sprayer is the most effective means of application. Always start the sprayer pump any the lowest pressure setting and slowly build up the pressure until an adequate fan pattern has been generated. Thickness should be a minimum of 1/8 inch. Porous substrates will require a thicker application. If too little product is applied, the removal of the film will be more difficult. Once applied, love the product alone. Dwell time is 24 hours or more. For smaller applications, a trowel is the best way to apply the cleaner, however, if applying it by brush, try to build a thick uniform layer to ensure ease of removal after the formation.

Light Duty, Heavy Duty, and Bio-Cleaners

First, saturate the substrate with water. Then apply a thick, even layer of the cleaner. The time required for the cleaner to adequately clean a substrate is approximately 5 to 45 minutes. A shorter dwell time should be used on limestone and marble when using the Heavy Duty Cleaner. If the product begins to dry, a second layer of cleaner may be applied directly over the existing one. Apply test panels to determine the dwell time prior to full application of the product. DO NOT ALLOW TO DRY ON SUBSTRATE.

Light Duty & Heavy Duty Rust Removers

First, saturate the substrate with water. Then apply a thick even layer of Rust Remover. Use a nylon brush to scrub heavily stained areas. The time for the Light Duty Rust Remover to adequately clean a typical substrate is approximately 45 to 90 minutes. The time for the Heavy Duty Rust Remover to adequately clean a typical substrate is approximately 5 to 30 minutes. A shorter dwell time should be used on limestone and marble. If the rust is extremely thick, the product may be left on the substrate for 4 to 6 hours. If product begins to dry, a second layer of cleaner may be applied over the existing one. Apply to test panels to determine dwell time prior to full application of product. DO NOT ALLOW TO DRY ON SUBSTRATE.

Efflorescence Remover

Apply a thick, even layer of Efflorescence Remover onto a DRY substrate. Let sit for several minutes, then scrub the surface with a nylon brush. Rinse off the substrate and reapply as needed.

Light and Heavy Duty Paint Remover

Apply a thick, even layer of stripper onto the coating being removed. An airless sprayer is the most effective means of application. Always start the sprayer pump at the lowest pressure setting and slowly build up the pressure until an adequate fan pattern has been generated. The minimum wet film thickness is 15 mils (300 microns). The stripper must be applied 50% thicker than the coating to be removed. High pressure is neither required nor desired. High pressure and narrow tip sizes will break the stripper's emulsion and will reduce its effectiveness. When trying to build up films thicker than 30 mils (600 microns), it is advisable to build the stripper film in two separate applications. First apply a light coat of approximately 10 mils (250 microns), allow it to dwell for about 30 minutes and build the rest of the stripper film thickness in the second application. Once applied, leave the stripper alone as agitation slows down penetration. Brushing and rolling should be avoided because these methods produce a lower film build and inconsistent thickness of stripper. The time required for penetration varies according to the type of paint, and the temperature. Apply test panels to determine dwell time prior to full application of the product. DO NOT ALLOW TO DRY ON SUBSTRATE.

Graffiti Remover

Only for use on painted surfaces other than acrylic coated surfaces. Apply a generous amount of remover by spray, brush, or roller to fully saturate the problem substance to be removed. Larger areas will require the use of a small hand pump, weed sprayer, or conventional spray equipment capable of producing a fine atomized spray. Wipe area with clean, dry terrycloth and rinse thoroughly with water.
